Sexual health advice for Chinese-speaking communities in the UK.
CLIENTS
Trade Sexual Health offers free, confidential health advice, information, services & support for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans communities of Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland. Leicester University
Xin Pan is a Ph.D. student from the University of Leicester and part of the EU research consortium SOLiDi (Solidarity in Diversity).
BRIEF
Trade Sexual Health & Xin approached us to produce two engaging animated videos to raise awareness and provide information for Chinese speakers on how to access sexual health services in the UK.
Xin’s research discovered that Chinese-speaking people arriving in the UK don’t always know how to access the UK health service or feel comfortable doing so. She identified that when moving to a new country it can be very daunting to access local healthcare and that having the information in your native language makes it more accessible.
She also wanted to de-stigmatise conversations around sex and sexual health within Chinese speaking communities who may feel uncomfortable talking about the topic.
RESULTS
Two animated videos on getting access to sexual health services for Chinese-speaking new arrivals in Leicester and across the UK.
These films outlined the process of getting a sexual health test through the NHS & Trade Sexual Health as well as highlighting information on getting treatments through a local pharmacist.
Our clients were very impressed by our professional videos and the animations were premiered at a launch event at Leicester’s LCB Depot where audience feedback was very positive.

THE PROCESS
Following the script provided by the client, Kino Bino’s in-house design team created an eye-catching style frame that reflected a range of gender identities.
All assets were designed in Illustrator and rigged in After Effects, using Joysticks n Sliders, Rubberhose and our new favourite plugin, Limber.
We have some experience with Mandarin in-house, but collaborated closely with the client for a line-for-line translation to ensure the character animation matched the voice-over.
