ANIMATED VIDEO ALL ABOUT SELF CARE AND COPING WITH PERIODS FOR ONLINE SEX EDUCATION EXPERTS AMAZE
CLIENT
AMAZE are a US based website taking the awkward out of sex education. They harness the power of digital media to provide young people around the globe with medically accurate, age-appropriate, affirming, and honest sex education they can access directly online—regardless of where they live or what school they attend.
AMAZE also strives to assist adults—parents, guardians, educators and health care providers around the globe—to communicate effectively and honestly about sex and sexuality with the children and adolescents in their lives.
BRIEF
We spotted an ‘animators call-out’ from AMAZE and put together a pitch for them. They loved our work and asked us to choose between three sex education topics. We chose periods/menses, as the more information out there for young people the better!
The video needed to help the audience become familiar with menstruation so they are not afraid, embarrassed or confused about what is happening in their body and how to care for it.
It also needed to show the viewer that there are many ways to manage menstruation to lessen the impact on their lives every month.
RESULTS
The feedback from the client has been fantastic and the video has already reached thousands of young people around the world, helping to spark constructive conversations about a difficult topic and receiving enthusiastic responses about our use of non gendered language and engaging designs.

The PROCESS
Collaborating with writer Gary Chudleigh, we came up with a concept based around non-binary tween blogger ‘Sam’. and created a set of vibrant costumes and environments to feature in the animation.
AMAZE involved a team of youth ambassadors to ensure the video would appeal to the target audience. They got to comment on the script, style frame and animatic. The overall response was really positive and after a few tweaks we moved on to the animation.
We had a great time creating all the fun scenes, including the one with a cheeky animated uterus. We also incorporated some cute chibi-style characters, which perfectly complimented Sam’s aesthetic and featured as a stop motion style animated segment on Sam’s skateboard deck.
All artwork was created in Adobe Illustrator and Sam was lovingly brought to life in After Effects, using joystick ‘n sliders and DUIK for rigging and animation.
