2021 - Year in Review

Style Frame from ‘Anita the Activist’, My Life series 12 for CBBC

Kino Bino Studio have had another interesting year working around this never ending global pandemic. we’ve connected with lots of lovely new clients online, continued some exciting projects with our regular clients and attended a few online events and festivals, the most recent being the fab Manchester Animation Festival.

KINO BINO ON THE TV

Our Kino Bino year started with the delivery of our first ever children’s TV broadcast project. Anita the Activist was a collaboration with Leicester local video production studio Image Nova for the My Life series on CBBC. The episode is all about the amazing young activist Anita and her investigation into the environmental impact of fast fashion. It was a great children’s TV production to collaborate on and it was lovely to meet all the other 12 production companies, who created the other episodes in the series, at the ‘wrap party’.

Babycenter ‘How Food Reaches Your Baby’

CLIENTS FROM ACROSS THE POND

We pride ourselves on being a fully remote studio and have worked with several US companies this year. We were delighted to be selected as one of the animation companies to help highlight the really important work, teen sex education charity, Amaze, does. Their no-nonsense approach, taking the awkward out of sex education in an age appropriate way, is world-renowned. We are looking forward to sharing this teen healthcare animation project in January.

The Visionary Organization Lab asked us to create an animated explainer to support the important workshops they do in the Detroit area.

We also continued with another two animations for our regular US client, BabyCenter, who asked us to create videos for their ‘Inside Pregnancy’ series - Fertilization & How Food Reaches Your Baby which leads us nicely to some baby news! Creative Director, Steff is expecting and will be having some time off to raise the new little Bino next year.

ANIMATION

This year we had an animation that went to the Houses of Parliament! We were contacted by the Clean up Britain campaign who asked us to produce an animated video explaining a major flaw in the environment bill which was sent out to parliamentarians. It’s great knowing that our animation has been seen by members of parliament whilst also highlighting the importance of environmental protection.

In Spring, the trendy online publisher Monocle asked us to help with their ‘Time for Thailand’ video, highlighting ten facts all about Thailand.

Next up was two series of educational MFL animated videos, teaching French & Spanish for the e-learning website Dragon Teaching. We helped create two engaging series of e-lessons, making learning French and Spanish loads of fun for the key stage 2 audience. We really enjoy collaborating on educational series projects like this and we explain what’s involved in our blog ‘Why Make An Animated Educational Series’.

Law firm Pinsent Masons Vario needed our assistance to create an explainer animation for their new ‘Consulting and Technology’ service. Making corporate information interesting, engaging, and easy to digest is really important to us. We love combining animation and motion graphics to explain businesses services and concepts in fun and exciting ways.

ILLUSTRATION

PlatformThirty1 ‘Lean On’

We were also commissioned for a couple of illustration projects this year, the first for BBC Bitesize where we created everything from castles to world war one soldiers. Then local arts charity Platform Thirty1 asked us to create illustrations depicting a diverse group of women for their ‘Lean On’ initiative.

We also created some social media GIFs for the IPPF charity, which they used on World Earth Day to highlight the effect of the climate crisis and how it intersects with sexual and reproductive health and rights.

BACK TO LEICESTER

Staying local, we once again helped out with the activity pack for Inspirate and the Diwali celebrations in Leicester and have just completed a video for local charity Sir Thomas White Charity explaining the history of this long-running fund and how you can apply for their very helpful loans, which we ourselves have benefitted from. They offer a great opportunity for local Leicester businesses and without them we wouldn’t be where we are today. It was a great pleasure working with them and we look forward to sharing this full project soon.

PlatformThirty1 ‘Greater Creative’

COMING UP NEXT

We have a couple of projects continuing over into next year. Another project with Platform Thirty1 for their fabulous Greater Creative arts project, where we are creating some animation to go along with some fascinating oral history stories about the mining community in the Blackwell Parish. We are also collaborating with Hoarding Disorder UK on some really helpful information videos to help support those with hoarding disorder.

There’s more exciting news coming up but we have to remain shhh at the moment and will be making an announcement in the new year.

Have a great Christmas and a Happy New Year everyone!
