2020 - Year in Review

2020 we think you’ll agree has been a strange old year! We’ve decamped to our home studio and got very used to the online video meeting world. It’s been a hard year for everyone but thankfully due to the nature of animation production, our work didn’t come to a complete grinding halt and we’ve been lucky enough to work on some lovely projects this year.

Wash your hands!

Our regular clients BabyCenter were quick to commission us to animate 2 handwashing videos. This project was our first with the amazing local illustrators Camile Medina and Pickle Illustration - they both helped us out with the artwork for this quick turnaround project. The finished videos delighted the client and they have received lots of attention with 1000’s of views!

New Producer

We’ve also grown our team in 2020 and welcomed Bella Tomlinson as our Producer. Her background is in stop-frame children’s animation. She produced the award-winning Bob the Builder and Pingu.

We actually met a while back but this year gave us the opportunity to bring her on board with some new projects. We really look forward to developing new series ideas with her and working on short film projects together.

Singing along with BBC Education

We’ve continued our education work with two projects for the BBC. Our first was some fun Mandarin songs for BBC Bitesize - working with Tentacle Media we created 3 songs to help teach Key Stage 2 children to learn some key Mandarin phrases. Then we were asked to animate some more songs - this time a collection of classic nursery rhymes for BBC Teach. We’ve had some fantastic feedback from BBC Education on the finished animation: ‘Kino Bino created a beautifully illustrated and animated collection of nursery rhymes featuring a set of animal characters that are perfect for the age group.’

Fun Activity Packs

We engaged with our local Leicester community when we produced two activity and colouring resources. The first was a series of calming colouring sheets - a free download to help in these uncertain times - commissioned by our friends Graffwerk and sponsored by the Arts Council. The second celebrated all things Diwali for our clients An Indian Summer and the Leicester City Council. The book was sent out to primary schools across Leicester and had a great response.

We got to play with toys…

Later in the year, the National Trust was looking for some engaging animation to liven up an evaluation report for their Sudbury Hall Museum of Childhood - so they called on us to produce a 4-minute animated summary video. We loved visiting the museum and discovering some amazing treasures in their collection of toys to include in the animation. We took this opportunity to commission Gary Chudleigh to write the script and for local talent agency Tucker Management, to provide us with a young actress for the voice-over. We also asked local musician Michael Tedstone to help out with the sound design. The video should be live on the National Trust website very soon - so watch this space.

Final projects of the year

We are finishing the year with some animated Spanish lessons for Dragons Teaching and another project for the BBC - this time for CBBC and in collaboration with local production company Image Nova. We can’t wait to share those projects with you too. In the meantime, have the best possible socially distanced Christmas and New Year and we look forward to seeing what 2021 will bring us.
