Animating Renoir in Leicester

As part of the The National Gallery's 200th Anniversary, 12 museums around the country will be displaying 12 iconic artworks from national collection in the summer of 2024, under the title 'National Treasures'.

Leicester Museum & Art Gallery will be displaying Pierre Auguste Renoir’s masterpiece “The Umbrellas” (c 1886), one of the most famous artworks in the world.

At Kino Bino we were commissioned to produce an animation that explores the meaning and ideas behind the artwork. The family friendly animation shows the artwork in a new light, opening this important piece of history to a wide variety of new audiences.

It was a great honour to work on this project and to bring this historical painting to life for a new generation. We hope our playful animation will inspire children and young people and encourage them to look closer at the fine art pieces hanging on the gallery walls.

The exhibition is on at Leicester Museum & Art Gallery on New Walk from now until 1st September. Out of hours tours and talks on the painting are on offer for more details see the full event programme.
